Professor Benjamin Anyanwu serves as Executive Medical Director of Regions Health Care, Hospitals and Specialist Clinics, Owerri, Nigeria. Following residency and fellowship training in the United States, he became triple board-certified in General Neurology, Vascular Neurology, and Neurocritical Care through the American Board of Medical Specialties and the United Council of Neurological Subspecialties.
After more than 20 years of practice in the United States, he returned to Nigeria to help lead a multi-specialty hospital in Nigeria with a clear focus on advanced healthcare in Owerri, patient-centered service, and strong clinical systems that support excellent outcomes.
During his time in the United States, he served as Medical Director of the Novant Health Comprehensive Stroke Program, Medical Director of the Neurocritical Intensive Care Unit, and Chairman of Neurosciences at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in North Carolina. Through his leadership and collaborations, Regions Health Care established the Regions Stroke Alert TeleNeuro - TeleStroke consultation program, supporting stroke care in Nigeria through telemedicine for hospitals across the country.
His contributions to medical leadership in Nigeria have earned national recognition, including the National Healthcare Excellence Award in June 2024 for excellence in stroke management and neurosciences, the Distinguished Service Award from the Nigerian Medical Association, and the National Diaspora Merit Award from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission in July 2025. He remains a globally respected health leader, philanthropist, and accomplished healthcare administrator.
